The Community Oriented Policing unit is tasked with neighborhood stabilization through targeted problem oriented policing strategies, community stakeholder coordination, and neighborhood engagement through location-specific programming. Members assigned to the COP Unit address ongoing quality of life issues affecting COP neighborhood residents through enforcement of statutes and ordinances, education, and in coordination with other jurisdictions, City departments, and non-profit organizations. COP Unit members work together to develop monthly neighborhood initiatives for unit-wide collaboration, in addition to coordinating with other department units to flexibly facilitate their efforts within COP neighborhoods.
Our unit is tasked with the implementation of neighborhood programming initiatives in collaboration with community stakeholders in the following areas:
- K-8 education/ homework assistance
- Health and wellness
- Team sports
- Juvenile and parent conflict resolution
- Juvenile alcohol and other drug education
- Job readiness
- Cops ’N’ Kids fishing trips
