The Racine Police Department Motor Unit is an auxiliary unit within the patrol division. The motor officer’s primary duties include traffic enforcement, community engagements, and escorts to include parades, fund-raisers, funerals, and dignitary details. The Racine Police Department believes the use of the motors enhance the image and visibility of our agency in support of our Community Policing model.
The Racine Police Department Motor Unit currently consists of 5 operators and 4 Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Each motorcycle is fully equipped to perform all patrol functions. Motor operators must have a State of Wisconsin motorcycle endorsement on his/her driver’s license and successfully complete an initial 80-hour Police Motorcycle Operator training course conducted by a Northwestern University Center for Public Safety-certified Police Motorcycle Operator instructor. All Motor Officers are required to re-qualify each year to maintain proficiency and certification.
